Frequently Asked Questions:

All ERP products claim to be "pure" Microsoft. Are they? What’s different about Intuitive ERP technology?

All ERP products claim to be "pure" Microsoft. Are they?

No. It takes hundreds of “man-years” to build an ERP system. In deciding to write an ERP system, a software company makes a big, expensive commitment to the computer language and data access technology they select at the beginning of the project. Often, the language and the data access technology are tightly integrated and not easily separated later. Once the body of software code that comprise the core of the ERP system has been written, an ERP software company is reluctant to rewrite that core in a new language or make the major structural changes necessary to employ a newer, more powerful database technology. Therefore, when compelling new technology does appear, it is quite common in the industry for an ERP company to surround their old ERP core software in a “wrapper” of newer technology. The goal of such wrappers is to effectively hide or mask the old technology, giving it the latest graphical “look,” or providing an easier means to access the core business logic and data from other, more-modern systems or from the Internet. Many ERP systems in the market today were originally written in -- and still contain -- cores written in non-Microsoft technologies or technologies that have not become mainstream, such as GUPTA®, Progress®, and Fox-Pro®. Strategies employed to wrap older products include putting modern Windows graphical user interfaces or web browser-based user interfaces on them, or, lately, providing new Web Services to access the old business logic components and databases.

What’s different about Intuitive ERP technology?

Intuitive ERP was originally built with and continues to use only Microsoft® technologies and platforms. Intuitive ERP is written in Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications®, straight Microsoft Visual Basic®, and Microsoft Transact SQL (T-SQL) languages. Intuitive ERP exclusively uses Microsoft SQL Server® as the database technology.

Intuitive ERP is pure Microsoft technology – to the core. As a result, Intuitive ERP does not have to contend with technology conflicts, trade-offs, or inefficiencies resulting from mixing or wrapping technologies. Harmonious and consistent Microsoft technology means Intuitive ERP enjoys high performance and development agility. Other systems that have added Microsoft code around an old technology core have to deal with translation between the old and new layers, data typing, formatting, interface, and performance issues, version compatibility dilemmas, and other subtle problems. In contrast, Intuitive’s technology platform is inherently compatible.

Our pure Microsoft approach means we provide our customers with a robust and completely integrated infrastructure, ease of administration and modification, ease of connectivity to other Microsoft and Microsoft-based products, and reduced IT requirements. Consistent technology also means that Intuitive, as a software provider, is able to put its development energy into building features and functions that directly benefit our customers, rather than waste time chasing solutions to tough problems rooted in technology differences. This development efficiency clearly shows in the rich feature set of Intuitive ERP. Age-wise, Intuitive is a very young ERP company. However, our feature set equals, and in many areas, exceeds our competitors. And finally, Intuitive’s core of pure Microsoft technology has enabled a fluid conversion of Intuitive ERP into the next generation of ERP software using Microsoft .NET technology.
